University of Oxford – Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN) / John Radcliffe Hospital

We invite applications for a 2-year postdoctoral research associate to study the neuroscience of human motivation. Motivation improves performance, for example improving attention, decision-making and motor control. However, the cognitive and neural mechanisms of this remain a major unsolved mystery. To address this, we are studying how motivation is disrupted by disease processes including Parkinson’s disease and focal damage to the frontal lobe.

Your duties will therefore include working with patients with neurological conditions. You will run behavioural studies in both healthy participants and patients. In addition, you will have the opportunity to design and run functional MRI and MEG studies. Training is provided in MEG at the Oxford Centre for Human Brain Activity (OHBA – www.ohba.ox.ac.uk), and in fMRI at the world-class Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain (FMRIB – www.fmrib.ox.ac.uk).

As part of this project, you will be part of a wide network of collaborators across different University departments, including in computational neuroscience and experimental psychology.

You should have completed, or be nearing completion of, a PhD in a related discipline, with experience in designing, coding and running behavioural or imaging studies. Good communication skills and a publication record are essential.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to: sanjay.manohar@ndcn.ox.ac.uk.

The post is full-time for a fixed-term of 2 years in the first instance. The post is available to start immediately.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Monday 3 April 2017 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
